At Vera we have two in-house dietitians, Desi Carlos and Lisa Carrigg.

They are passionate about giving practical advice on incorporating healthy eating habits into everyday life, and providing a bespoke service where clients receive personalised nutritional therapy that goes beyond expectations.

Mediterranean Diet

Desi is the author of the Mediterranean Diet – Cook.Eat.Live and The Mediterranean Diet – The Lifestyle of Eating. Her nutrition, science knowledge and cooking ideas make her an expert in the implementation of the Mediterranean diet as a non-dieting approach for weight loss, reduced inflammation for endometriosis, adenomyosis, interstitial cystitis, high cholesterol and heart disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), diabetes, anxiety and depression, inflammatory disorders, the prevention of cancer, dementia, and improving longevity of life.

Weight Loss or Weight Maintenance

Balancing all macronutrients and micronutrients preparing the body for pregnancy and correcting nutritional deficiencies with food in a non-diet approach (and supplements if necessary).  

Fertility

Weight loss or gain as required to be within healthy weight range. Rectify deficiencies and low glycaemic meal plan. Mediterranean diet to assist with fertility. Increasing folate, B12, omega 3 fatty acids through food and supplementation.

Nutrition in Pregnancy

Balance, prevention of deficiencies, increase energy through improved low Gi carbohydrates, increased fibre and calcium, adequate calories, education in macronutrient distributions across the day.  Balancing vegetarian and vegan eating in pregnancy. Promoting healthy eating practices and protein complementing to prevent deficiencies.

Gestational Diabetes

Nutritional management and a balanced diet for pregnancy. Incorporation and education in low GI and glycaemic load, adequate protein and monounsaturated fats and adequate calories for pregnancy with the goal of improved BSLs, with or without medication.

Low Iron & Anaemia

Treatment through education in haem-rich foods and foods influencing the absorption of iron and prevention of constipation.

IBS Symptoms

Treatment of constipation, diarrhoea, gut pain and discomfort. Nutritional assistance in the treatment of endometriosis symptoms and balance of diet once necessary dietary exclusions undertaken.

Food Intolerances and Allergies

As required — gluten free, dairy free, soy free, Fodmaps, RPAH elimination diet (food chemical intolerances). Diagnostic techniques, elimination, reintroduction, liberalisation and balance.

PCOS

Weight loss if required, improved insulin sensitivity, increased energy, decreased carvings for sugar and carbohydrates.

Anxiety & Depression

Balancing macronutrients, low GI foods distributed across the day, adequate magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, omega 3s in the diet. The implementation of the Mediterranean Diet principles.
