sensing safety workshop

With Claire Stephenson

Saturday 23rd March 2024

9.30am - 3.30pm

Do you feel okay in the world, in your relationships, work and your general life?

When we are overwhelmed and stressed, our logical thinking suffers and we lose the ability to find words.

Somatic therapy connects to your feeling, emotions and sensations. It provides tools that support your nervous system so you feel safe. It also supports your body so you can rediscover clarity, purpose and direction.

Our somatic therapist, Claire Stephensen, uses many science-based tools to move through pain, stress, grief and trauma to find deep self-compassion and freedom.

Safety is something we experience in our bodies.

We can’t simply learn it from a book and we can’t force it — We need a practical experience.

what you can expect

Sensing Safety is a small and highly personalised workshop with only 6 people in each workshop.

During the day, learning will be both experiential and intellectual. We’ll explore the landscape of safety together from your own embodied experience, re-learn some basic theories of safety (in a fun and engaging way!) as well as take home a toolkit of practices that work for you and your unique needs.

No prior experience in somatics, embodiment or creativity is required.

    • How safety is not a binary concept - Unsafe vs Safe - but rather a whole world to explore

    • How you personally experience safety differently depending on your life experiences, relationships, identities, skin colour, gender or neurotype

    • The primary intellectual theories around safety

    • How Embodied Emergency responses of fight, flight, freeze, fawn show up in your actions or inaction (with deep compassion every step of the way)

    • Your personal map back towards safety

    • Basic trauma neuroscience

    • The cyclical nature of safety

    • The felt experience of safety

    • The challenge of turning towards safety while living in a culture of shame and/or navigating the world of chronic pain or trauma

For many people, the culture we live and work in can feel really unsafe for our bodies; a culture that prioritises shame, conforming, disconnection and productivity over connection, consent, belonging and health.
